The White Mandingos "The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me" Video [Dir. Jason Goldwatch]
The White Mandingos follow their lead single "The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me" with a video for the track directed by Jason Goldwatch. The punk rap super-group - a trio featuring MURS, Sacha Jenkins SHR and Daryl Jennifer of Bad Brains - delivers a video as seedy and raw as the single with MURS detailing the dangers of the ghetto from the backseat of a cab to the roof of a bombed out car somewhere in a dead-end with his bandmates. Their relatively calm and joyful demeanor stands in complete contrast to MURS' fiery performance. You get the grainy imagery of guns, drugs, liquor, pollution and poor diet in a montage of stock images encapsulating the landmarks of every ghetto in America. Watching MURS go bananas on top of the car forces the frustration of the song right down your throat and imparts the distinct fear that at any moment he is going to grab a bat and bust the windows out - his display of angst against the careening guitar is enough to make a clear case for punk as the forefather of the hard in hip-hop. You be the judge. Check the video below. The White Mandingos' debut LP The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me drops on June 11th via Fat Beats Records. Swag!
