Legendary afrobeat drummer Tony Allen took a break from manning the drumkit to talk the genesis of the genre he co-founded with Fela Kuti and the importance of James Brown in conversation with Okayafrica TV. The clip arrives in time to celebrate the release of Allen's tenth studio LP and what would have been Kuti's 76th birthday. The project produced by the Jazzbastards features contributions from Damon Albarn, amongst others. Okayafrica caught up with Allen in at Daptone Studios in Brooklyn where he was recording drum parts for another venture during a tour stop in support of the project.
