Let's All Not Listen to Tory Lanez' Sociopathic New Album
Megan Thee Stallion deserves better, so we're not streaming this release that wouldn't have happened without a night involving gun violence.
On Thursday night rather than giving an explanation for the July 12th shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion, Tory Lanez dropped a new album, DAYSTAR.
It would be the first time Tory Lanez has publically spoken since the Los Angeles incident or since Megan publicly shared that Tory was the shooter in an Instagram Live session in August. (She also said she was fearful the police would endanger her life if she told them Tory shot her.) On Thursday afternoon — in an all-time shitty move — the Canadian rapper teased something was coming, writing in a tweet: “To my fans ... I’m sorry for my silence .... but respectfully .. I got time today ...... 9 PM PST .”
That something was the 17-track DAYSTAR album. What’s astonishing about Lanez capitalizing on this moment is that he’s standing firmly in a night that was marked by gun violence. Equally moving is the fact that up until now he’s only spoken out when his streaming numbers took a tremendous drop in recent weeks. To be clear the streams went down after Megan declared Tory shot her in the foot.
The mere thought that an album release is fitting for this week proves Lanez and his camp are delusional. They're seeking financial gain from a night that changed Megan's life forever. Beyond this, it’s clear Tory doesn’t mind putting Megan in a compromising position. I didn’t listen to the album and I won’t, but there are some sites that have already shared lyrics from it. The songs are ridden with gaslighting and sociopathic behavior.
On DAYSTAR Tory isn’t just throwing Megan under the bus, he’s also coming for other artists who spoke up in support of her, women artists including Kehlani and Kaash Paige. He also alleged that he didn’t shoot Megan and that her team is framing him (more gaslighting). He also proceeded to divulge intimate details about his relationship with her. All of this and whatever else he chose to address is batshit crazy and it’s not OK. It’s dismissive and disgusting.
Even though DAYSTAR is streaming on Soundcloud I won’t be listening. If you’re an avid supporter of Megan or hip-hop and don't condone violence against women you won’t be listening either. Do something else with your time.
