Papoose x Erykah Badu - "Cure"
If the title of this post finds you colored a little surprised, join the club. As the gully Brooklyn representative gears up to release his now almost decade-long delayed debut album The Nacirema Dream, Papoose hits us with a conscious track featuring Erykah Badu entitled "Cure." Due out tomorrow, The Nacirema Dream - that's "American" spelled backwards for those of you as confused as I initially was - will finally see the light of day after many a dispute with record labels since Pap's much-hyped entrance into the rap game in 2005. It's unfortunate to see talent go to waste through conflicts over money and contracts, so hopefully this album marks a new era in Papoose's career and an opportunity to grow as an artist, and the impressive list of features - Mobb Deep, Jadakiss, DJ Premier to name a few--definitely have our interest somewhat piqued. "Cure" doesn't do anything to break the mold as far as "rapper-with-a-heart" messages go, but Ms. Badu's hook breathes life into these cautionary stories, making it at least worth a listen.
