The Very Best & Most On-Theme Met Gala 2022 Celebrity Looks
Celebrities showed up and showed out for the 2022 Met Gala. Coming as no surprise Cardi B stole the night in an excellent Versace gown.
The first Monday in May has officially ensued, the 2022 Met Gala. While last year's theme centered on American fashion, this time around "gilded glamour" was the focus. For those who are curious as to what the Gilded Age actually would mean for the red carpet — celebrities and fashion insiders alike were tasked with showing up with excessive custom looks that could be worn between 1870 and 1890 (Mark Twain designated this period). "White tie" was also acceptable. During this period, fortunes were monumental and New York City's upper society was booming.
You might ask who passed the red carpet with flying colors? That's why we're here. Cardi B was undeniably one of the best-dressed stars of the evening, she arrived in custom Versace alongside Donatella Versace. Lavish golden embellishments made up the entirety of her gown.
Another look that was superior included Paloma Elsesser who donned a custom Coach frock paired with a stunning corset. Elsewhere, Lizzo wore a full Thom Browne look which emphasized a stunning coat crafted in black and gold. Megan Thee Stallion showed up and showed out in Moschino, her golden dress featured wings, which were a cheeky touch.
Erykah Badu stunned in custom Marni, her look was quite eclectic and took patchwork suiting to new heights. An oversized top hat and ultra-long braids topped things off for the iconic artist. Gabrielle Union honored Diahann Carroll in her look created by Versace with her stylist Thomas Cristos. The glistening silver dress featured an enlarged red floral accent, she looked ethereal.
Questlove looked to André Leon Talley for his Met Gala appearance this year. He paid tribute to the late fashion writer by wearing an oversized Zegna coat similar to Talley's infamous coats. Kid Cudi in Kenzo was another highlight of the evening, he paired a vibrant blue suit with a cape (his eye makeup was also it). Edvin Thompson the Theophilio designer and creative director stepped out in an eye-grabbing custom Thom Browne suit. He carried a matching leather dog handbag too (chic).
We couldn't forget Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys styled by Fatima B. The couple arrived in Ralph Lauren-designed pieces. Keys' cape was insane, it featured the New York skyline. And Swizz Beatz wore a Yankees fitted cap in addition to a matching letterman jacket.
Through and through the 2022 Met Gala celebrating "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art featured a plethora of moments that worked. Yes, there were a few celebrities who missed the mark, but overall it was exciting to see those who were on-theme.
