Vince Staples' 'Prima Donna' EP Coming Soon Along With Short Film
Vince Staples' forthcoming EP Prima Donna now has a release date. According to a press release the project will be dropping on August 26 and will feature production from James Blake, No I.D. and DJ Dahi, as well as include features from A$AP Rocky and Kilo Kish.
The six track release will also be accompanied by a short film directed by Nabil (who's done videos for Kanye West, FKA Twigs and Frank Ocean, to name a few). No information has been revealed on what exactly will be in the film yet.
Staples will also be putting out a limited edition vinyl of Prima Donna, which you can preorder on his website here beginning on August 19. There will only be 5,000 copies total, so be sure to preorder yours if you want to assure you get one.
Prima Donna serves as the follow up to Vince Staples' well received debut studio double album Summertime '06. The notable 2015 release spawned popular singles such as "Norf Norf" and "Seniorita," and ultimately became a commercial and critical hit for the Long Beach rapper.
News that Staples was going to release Prima Donna first appeared during an interview with Fader. Although the rapper never discusses the EP directly, it's described as a "chaotic fusion of warped soul, distorted hooks, and extraterrestrial demonic spirituals," with the six song collection starting off with "a rap star killing himself and concludes with him first coming to fame."
So it's safe to say that the release will follow in suit of Staples' previous works, the rapper exploring themes that are common throughout all of his catalog. You can check out the track list below which will include "War Ready," a track that popped up on HBO television series Ballers (hopefully this version is the same one that appears on the EP) a few weeks back.
