Watch Pharrell and Ellen DeGeneres Discuss Kim Burrell's Homophobic Rant
Earlier this week, a video of Kim Burrell ranting and raving over the "perverted homosexual spirit" surfaced and fucked up an otherwise pretty solid opening seven-day stretch to 2017. Burrell, a gospel star and preacher, followed that shitty sermon with an equally shitty "apology" video, wherein she blamed her fanbase for never winning a Grammy and having never gone platinum, making her two for two on the year's FOHest moments.
Needless to say, feathers were ruffled. Recent collaborators, Pharrell and Janelle Monae, spoke out against her hate-speech immediately, and Frank Ocean's mom is now leading the charge to have Burrell removed from Blond(e), though Ocean himself has yet to respond. Today, Burrell was scheduled to perform "I See a Victory" with Pharrell on The Ellen Show, but the show's host pulled the plug on that as soon as she received word that her prospective performer was harboring such profound prejudices towards the LGBTQ community. In a preview clip from today's episode, Pharrell and Ellen discuss Burrell's very vocal disdain and the need for compassion, love and acceptance. You know, just being a decent human towards other decent humans.
Watch that discussion below and tune in today at 4pm for the full treatment.
