Will Smith May Be Working On A New 'Fresh Prince' Reboot
It might really be happening. According to reports from TV Line, Will Smith may indeed be producing a reboot of his classic 90s series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Citing multiple sources, the website reports that Smith's production company Overbrook Entertainment is in "the very early stages of developing a present-day Fresh Prince reboot that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series."
An official pitch is allegedly being finished up by Overbrook, after which the company will begin shopping the idea around. We can't imagine they'll have any trouble finding eager takers for such a brilliant franchise. But don't get carried away with visions of Smith stepping out in front of the cameras again just yet--according to TV Line Smith would be attached as an executive producer, working alongside partners including James Lassiter, Caleeb Pinkett and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Next month marks the 25-year anniversary of the premiere of Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and so the beginnings of a new chapter seems so, so very appropriate. Perhaps Smith's kids will take on cameo roles? It's a lot of speculation at this point, but hopefully the germinating redux comes to fruition--and returns to sit on its rightful throne.
