19 New Hip-Hop & R&B Albums You Should Listen To Right Now (Week Of April 9th)

This week’s new albums features rap standouts from BROCKHAMPTON, M03, Elhae, Kevo Muney, and Lakeyah. 

It's a heavy day. On Friday morning, DMX's family confirmed that the legendary rapper passed away after being on life support for the last week. He was only 50 years old.

It's hard to think about new music while mourning such a legendary figure. So we can understand if you want to skip out on new albums this week and just bang "Get At Me Dog" and It's Dark and Hell is Hot all weekend. But, if you're interested, there's a bunch of new albums that dropped this Friday.

You got new albums from BROCKHAMPTON, Yaya Bey, Kevo Muney, Charlie Heat, Matt Martians, and more. Check out all of the new projects you should to listen to below.

BROCKHAMPTON — Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine

After taking a couple of years off, BROCKHAMPTON has released a new album, Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine. According to group leader Kevin Abstract, there are only two BROCKHAMPTON albums left (with the other coming later this year.)

CJ — Loyalty Over Royalty (Deluxe)

Staten Island rapper CJ is trying to prove he isn't a one hit wonder. The Deluxe version of his EP Loyalty Over Royalty features a latin mix of "Whoopty" and a New York City remix of "Whoopty."

Yaya Bey — The Things I Can't Take With Me

Brooklyn singer and songwriter Yaya Bey has released her new EP, The Things I Can't Take With Me. Watch the video for the EP's single, "september 13th."

Mo3 — Shottaz 4Eva

Back in November, Dallas rapper M03 was murdered broad daylight in his home city. The first posthumous album has just been released, featuring appearances from Boosie Badazz, Kevin Gates, and YFN Lucci.

Kevo Muney — Lucille's Grandson

Memphis rapper and singer Kevo Muney has released his heartfelt new project, Lucille's Grandson. Speaking to XXL about his influences, Kevo said:

"I grew up listening to Marvin Gaye, Marvin Sease, let me see, Otis Redding, B.B. King, Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Womack, Bobby "Blue" Bland. People like that."

Elhae — AURA III

Georgia-raised singer Elhae has released his Motown debut, Aura III. The project features appearances from Masego, Rick Ross, and Xavier Omar.

Matt Martians — Going Normal

The always mysterious Matt Martians just randomly dropped a new project called Going Normal. We're grateful.

Charlie Heat  — Valentine's Son

Producer Charlie Heat has released a R&B album dedicated toward his mother, Valentine. The album features songs from Ant Clemons, Sevyn Streeter, Gemaine and Dougie F, and more. Speaking about why he made the album, Heat said:

“I’ve always been known for the energy I bring to my beats in hip-hop, so I wanted to give my fans a different experience with my art through R&B.”

Kid Ink — Alive

Even after all of these years, Los Angeles rapper Kid Ink is still alive and well. He has released his first official album since 2015. Check out the video for "Night & Day" here.

Baltimore rapper Young Moose recently made headlines for suing detective Daniel Hersl, member of the infamous Gun Trace Task Force in Baltimore, claiming he was regularly harassed and wrongly arrested. But Moose is also still putting out music. He just released his new album The Last Draggin'.
