BRS Kash Topped Charts with “Throat Baby,” but What's Next?

Atlanta's BRS Kash has raked in a bevy of streams on his hit "Throat Baby" thanks to the catchy chorus of the song. The LVRN signee shares what it's like releasing a raunchy hit.

Rapper BRS Kash sneakily made his way to the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his explicit Southern anthem “Throat Baby (Go Baby).” For months “Throat Baby” has steadily been garnering traction in states like Georgia and Florida. Beyond the Hot 100, the song also went viral on TikTok back in October when it accumulated over 460,000 user-generated videos. 

The Atlanta artist’s melodic sound capitalizes on the sweet spot that exists between R&B and trap music that’s ubiquitous in the South. The LVRN signee’s stripper anthem is undoubtedly one of the highlights of 2020, it arrived during the summer months as we were stuck in the house (unless you were in Miami or Atlanta). “I feel so blessed, it’s amazing,” he shared in an email when asked about how he feels about the track taking off in 2020. 

BRS Kash is unsurprisingly inspired by Chris Brown, Drake, and Future. “I’m inspired by their work ethic overall and the way they just keep moving with the times,” he adds. Respectfully, Brown has garnered a fanbase due to his well-produced R&B tracks. On the other end of the spectrum, Future carved out his stake in hip-hop during the beloved mixtape era in the '10s. He went from shelling out mixtapes to being one of the most widely regarded acts out of Atlanta due to his dedication to his craft. Elsewhere, Drake, a global phenomenon has an ear and sound that has allowed him to bust through genres and sounds. Each of these artists is a fitting inspiration for the rising rapper.

Amongst a sea of trap indebted rappers, BRS Kash’s confidence sets him apart. That’s what’s evident on his debut mixtape out today, Kash Only. The release is filled with gritty, energetic tracks that we imagine will get some play in Magic City, The Office, and more. Standouts on it include “Kash Only” with Mulatto, “Shake,” and “So Freaky.” 

His lyrics throughout the tape are reminiscent of underrated music by Ball Greezy, Boosie Badazz, and Ice Berg. Recording sessions took place at LVRN’s Atlanta and Los Angeles studios. On his songwriting sessions, he expressed, “My songwriting process was if it comes to [my] mind I just lay it down. I took a lot of time and had a lot of fun making this project.” As for the release of the “Throat Baby (Remix)” with the City Girls and DaBaby, the rapper said he believes his overall growth as an artist-led to these features. JT and Yung Miami’s cutting, provocative bars were ideal alongside Kash’s. The track easily set the tone for the entire project. 

If you’re from the South, it probably came as no surprise that BRS Kash organically grew as his debut track was wildly popular on the radio and in the clubs. For his next feat, the Atlanta artist aims to work with who inspires him in 2021: Drake, Future, and Chris Brown. 

“I just want [my fans] to be prepared for the storm I’m about to cause in this game and this great music I’m about to deliver,” he adds.
