Raekwon Chats With Joe Rogan About Wanting To Make A Wu-Tang Movie and More

Raekwon sat down with Joe Rogan for an extensive interview that touched on everything from his desire to create a movie about the Wu-Tang Clan to new music he’s working on.

In a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Rae recalled how, with an assist from fellow rapper Q-Tip, he managed to set up a meeting with himself, RZA and Leonardo DiCaprio’s team to pitch a Wu-Tang movie prior to Wu-Tang: An American Saga happening. However, the movie never came to fruition, with RZA instead opting to tell the group’s story on the Hulu series.

“I wish we could have been able to sit down with [DiCaprio] because the way I had him looking at it — I said, ‘This would be, like, a slash of Goodfellas and Menace II Society, mixed in one,’” Raekwon said.

“He was super open. … But at that time, RZA was already in pocket with what he already wanted to do,” he continued.

However, Rae did say that he’s still interested in offering his own cinematic take on the Wu’s story, saying, “One day, maybe I might get to show my version of it.”

“It could still be made. … God willing, we will really give you guys another taste of how we really see it,” he added.

Elsewhere in the chat, he also shared that he’s working on a documentary for his seminal debut studio album, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...

“We went back and decided to do a documentary about it,” he said, noting that it’s going to be called The Purple Tape Files in reference to the album’s infamous purple tape edition.

“My team sat down and said, ‘You need to do a documentary about this album because you could make 50 albums and people are still going to talk about Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...’” he continued.

He then went on to say that he’s been working on the documentary for 10 years and that he’s preparing to start pitching it this year.

And lastly, he shared that he’s working on new music, with the new album being titled The Emperor’s New Clothes.
