Rapsody Disses DJ Akademiks Over the Beat to Kendrick Lamar’s “TV Off”
In response to Rapsody bringing up DJ Akadmiks' ongoing cases involving women in a freestyle, Akademiks accused her of being a hypocrite for working under Jay-Z.
Rapsody sent a diss directed at DJ Akademiks during a recent appearance on Sway’s Universe, where she freestyled over Kendrick Lamar’s “TV Off.”
In the freestyle, she offered up the following line that was a reference to the media personality: “Feel like a Greek how I be stepping on these b**ch ni**as, Akademik / Affidavits, entertainment ni**as who got open cases / Women charges, they say you violated.”
Following the freestyle being shared on social media, the podcaster addressed the diss.
“I do want to ask you this one question, Rapsody,” he said during a livestream. “You signed to Roc Nation. I hope you go up there to the office. Do you ever do that? [...] This is where my rap battle, where my diss song is gonna be at with you.”
“When you talk about people with open cases, you know how many open cases your mans got? That run the label that you on?” Akademiks continued, referring to Jay-Z, the founder and owner of Roc Nation, which Rapsody is signed to. “Do you know how many cases got settled that we didn't hear about but I know about, even though the NDA is strong?”
“You're gonna look like a f**king hypocrite,” he added. “You're on Roc Nation, and all y'all ni**as in the ‘90s was all doing dirty d**k diddler s**t. You ain't signed to Jesus baby girl, you signed to Jay-Z. Let's keep that fact up there because I'm always down to talk.”
Although Akademiks went on to note Rapsody’s rapping abilities, referring to her as a “phenomenal rapper,” he dismissed the apparent diss as a measly attempt at clout-chasing, saying, “For y’all lyrical rappers, get in the f**king booth and go make a hit without trying to think that you have to diss people.”
“Because trust and believe, I don’t gain a viewer by mentioning Rapsody, so don’t think you finna gain a listener by mentioning Akademiks,” he continued. “Go make a f**king hit.”
“You want to go get your ‘Not Like Us’ moment? Well, you gon’ be battling with Big Ak,” he added.
Rapsody has yet to respond to Akademiks, although following her freestyle on Sway’s Universe, she seemed to explain why she sent remarks Akademiks’ way.
While speaking with Sway on why she made a since-deleted post on X about Drake’s hope to take legal action against Universal Music Group in relation to his feud with Lamar, Rapsody was asked about the backlash to the post, which included a harsh comment from Akademiks’ Akademiks TV X account.
“They be on my head but I don’t care. That’s why I had to get at Akademiks. I saw you, ‘Dumbass Rapsody.’ I got yo’ dumbass,” she said, seemingly referring to this post from the Akademiks TV account, where he said, “Rapsody dumb*ss backpedal after it’s revealed UMG cut their licensing rate by 30% in exchange for Spotify to promote Kendrick over her music.”
