On Wednesday, ESPN asked Jemele Hill not to host that evening's SportsCenter. However, Michael Smith, Hill's co-anchor, refused to host the show unless Hill was next to him. According to ThinkProgress, ESPN then tried to get two replacements, Michael Eaves and Elle Duncan, who are both black. But they refused, because, you know, solidarity. In fact, Eaves sent out a subtweet on Wednesday:
“Man.. this day got me like..
😡🤐😡”— Michael Eaves (@Michael Eaves) 1505334605
Faced with the prospects of having white hosts replace the network's two very black SportsCenter hosts, ESPN relented and asked if Hill could come back. Hill and Smith hosted Wednesday's SportsCenter.
Hill and Smith hosted Wednesday's SportsCenter.
After the piece was published, ESPN refuted the story. ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz emailed ThinkProgress saying: "We never asked any other anchors to do last night’s show. Period."
Hill has not commented on these new details. However, she sent out an interesting tweet shouting out men from the National Association of Black Journalists. One of the men featured in that picture is Eaves.
