Marshawn Lynch Saves a Bay Area Soul Food Spot By Purchasing It
Cassie Nickelson is the owner of Scend's Restaurant and Bar, a soul-food restaurant in Emeryville, California that's been in the neighborhood since 1967.
Nickelson, who is 80, will be retiring next month. Instead of shuttering the popular eatery, one of her most well known customers, who just so happens to be one of the best running backs in the NFL, will be taking over: Marshawn Lynch.

The Oakland Raiders running back has purchased Scend's (which is an acronym of the names of Nickelsons children and grandchildren.)
This isn't a random pick up for the future hall-of-famer. There's history here. Nickelson used to run a catering business out of her apartment and Lynch was one of her customers. Nickelson tellsKTVU:
"When he was 9-years-old, he came across the street to get a hamburger and French fries. 25-cent French fries and a 75-cent hamburger."
Lynch has no plans to change the menu, which contains soul food staples like red beans and rice, fried chicken, fried catfish, and mac and cheese.
And this is the ideal situation for Nickelson:
"I'm comfortable with him and I like him."
