Watch a New Trailer for the Upcoming Betty Davis Documentary 'They Say I'm Different'
They Say I'm Different makes its film festival debut later this month
At the tail-end of 2015, director Phil Cox launched a crowd-funding campaign to bring his vision of a Betty Davis documentary to life. And while the campaign didn't quite hit its goal of $65,000 (currently sitting at $32,757,) the film lives on under a new name and will premiere at this year's IDFA film festival in Amsterdam later this week.

Now titled They Say I'm Different, the documentary has a new trailer guided by the voice of Davis, recounting memories of rock and jazz deities like ex-husband, Miles Davis, and speculated love, Jimi Hendrix; two icons first introduced by Davis. Though a full-on collaboration never came to fruition, the music of Hendrix, and perhaps more prominently, Sly Stone, infected Davis and inspired his pivot to the psychedelic worlds of fusion and funk.

A precise date for the release has yet to surface, but is sure to make way in the weeks proceeding the doc's festival debut. In other Betty Davis news, the funk hero's debut album, Nasty Gal, is slated for a vinyl reissue at the top of 2018 via Light in The Attic, who rereleased each album in her catalog since 2009. Nasty Gal would complete the collection. It's set for a January 12th, 2018 release with revamped liner notes, exclusive photos and interview.
