Nas and Hit-Boy Pay Homage With “EPMD” Video
Fresh off his Grammy award for Best Rap Album, Nas drops a video from the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack.
On Thursday, Nas released the video for "EPMD," his latest single from the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack. The track was produced by Hit-Boy, who also produced the entirety of Nas' Grammy-winning album King's Disease. The project featured guest appearances from Big Sean, Charlie Wilson, Don Toliver, Lil Durk, Anderson .Paak, and more. Stream the "EPMD" video below.
The duo pays homage to EPMD's iconic bucket hats, and cites the legendary Long Island duo's 1992 album Back in Business. Instead of the Camaro and Mercedes E-Class from the Unfinished Business album cover, the two bring a vintage Mercedes sedan. The video takes place at an expansive hilltop mansion, and heavily echoes Jay-Z and Nas' sentiments of "reclaiming cultural ownership." Other messages like "Don't compromise," "Don't cross over," and "Respect to the kings. Love to the queens." appear on-screen. A sharply-dressed group of Black women sip Hennessy from fine china, while being waited by white waitresses.
Hit-Boy also added a single to the Judas soundtrack in "Broad Day." The soundtrack caps a busy year for the Los Angeles producer, who executive produced Big Sean's Detroit 2 album, Benny the Butcher's Burden of Proof, as well as tracks on Jay Electronica and Jay-Z's A Written Testimony, Polo G's The Goat, and Mick Jenkins' The Circus EP.
