Netflix Counters HBO Max Deal With 70-Film Preview Trailer

Netflix previewed over 70 new original films in its 2021 trailer.

With the COVID-19 pandemic closing movie theaters in cities across the world, streaming services have the most to gain given millions of people in quarantine. On Tuesday, Netflix countered HBO Max's deal with Warner Bros with a trailer previewing 71 new films to be released in 2021. Watch the star-studded full trailer below.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Regina King, Octavia Spencer and more appear in the trailer. One of the first films previewed is The Harder They Fall, a Western starring Idris Elba, Regina King and Zazie Beetz. Halle Berry makes an appearance, taking a moment with Lin-Manuel Miranda to announce their directorial debuts. Berry will direct Bruised. Miranda with Tick, Tick...Boom! The movie is a musical drama based off a semi-autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson.

"Three years in, I'm excited by what we've done," Netflix Head of Original Films Scott Stuber said in an interview with Deadline. "But we've still got a lot more to do, but I feel good about the progress we're making."

The batch of new drops will feature Malcolm and Marie, starring Zendaya and John David Washington. The film will hit the platform on February 5th.

Eric Andre and Lil Rel Howery's Bad Trip will hit the platform February 28 after nearly a full year of delays. The hidden camera comedy was originally set to be released at South by Southwest on March 14, 2020, then in theaters on April 17. The movie was accidentally released on Amazon Prime Video on April 17, and subsequently pirated. The rights to the movie were then sold to Netflix, who announced the new date in February.

The final moments of the trailer highlights one of the lineup's most star-studded films. Adam McKay's Don't Look Up, a political satire starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Kid Cudi, and Cate Blanchett.
