Last week was a big one for The Roots. On Friday, Philadelphia City Councilman Mark Squilla passed a resolution to name an Avenue of the Roots in the band's hometown. The sign is located at the intersection of East Passyunk Avenue and South Street. The street's dedication was scheduled to take place the weekend of May 30, to coincide with Roots Picnic 2020.
However, the city decided to go ahead and install the street sign the following Friday. "We were supposed to wait for the vote," Questlove said. "Then like in May come Picnic Time we'd have an unveiling w confetti & kool aid lol...really awesome to see the place we honed our skills and craft embrace us like this."
