As the summer nears, Tyler the Creator shared "Side Street," a teaser video suggesting new music was on the way. The teaser was accompanied by billboards with the tagline "Call Me if You Get Lost" and a phone number. The number lead to a voicemail from Tyler's mom, which was revealed to be from an upcoming album track titled "MOMMA TALK." On Wednesday, Tyler dropped the video for "Lumberjack," a RZA-produced track that samples Gravediggaz' "2 Cups of Blood" and features DJ Drama's signature Gangsta Grillz DJ drops. Stream the new video below.
The video was directed by Tyler, with Luis Panch Perez and Tara Razavi of Happy Place serving as director of photography and producer, respectively. Happy Place, founded by Razavi, previously collaborated with Tyler for the IGOR album, and has provided creative direction for artists like Kid Cudi, John Legend, and A$AP Rocky.
Perez previously worked on projects like SZA's "Good Days" and "Hit Different," Tyler's "Yonkers," "IFHY," and Kevin Abstract's "Miserable America."
Since dropping IGOR in 2019, Tyler has done ads for Coca-Cola and fashion campaigns for Gucci, as well as appearing on tracks with Channel Tres and Brent Faiyaz. Tyler will put on a set as one of the headlining artists at Bonnaroo festival in September this year, so a new project could theoretically arrive before then. Until then, find "Lumberjack" on all major digital streaming platforms.
